INTER•WOVEN / Interdisciplinary Interpretations of Contemporary Printmaking in Canada, Akademia Sztuk Pięknych, Łodź, Poland; Centrum Łowicka, Warsaw, Poland
March 9–23, 2017, Łódź, Poland
October 6–October 27, 2017, Warsaw, Poland
April 26–June 9, 2018, Vernon, Canada
The exhibition INTER•WOVEN contains works that originated in Canadian studios from coast to coast. Twelve artists were invited to challenge their personal practices and produce new works for an exhibition at Kobro Gallery in Łódź, Poland, that looked to both textile and print references in creative ways. Derek Besant, former director at the Nickle Museum in Calgary, acted as the Canadian curator while Alicja Habisiak Matczak, director of PATA at the Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, curated the exhibition in Poland. Deepening a longstanding liaison between Poland and Canada, the artists attended the opening in Łódź, Poland, at the KOBRO Gallery, where they delivered lectures on their work and interacted with the public at a packed reception. INTER•WOVEN later traveled to the National Cultural Center Art Gallery in Warsaw with the support of the Canadian Embassy as part of the Canada 150 celebrations, eventually enjoying a Canadian iteration at Headbones Gallery in Vernon, BC, Canada.
