2017
Organized by Professor Robert Trukowski, University of Regina, Regina, SK, Canada
In 2016, The Art Gallery of Regina, Articulate Ink, and the University of Regina Department of Visual Arts – Printmaking, joined forces to organize the first ever Flatgrafika symposium. Flatgrafika was a suite of events and exhibitions in Regina dedicated to the art of printmaking. Programming partners included Art Gallery of Regina, MAP: Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance – University of Regina; Saskatchewan Filmpool Cooperative; Creative City Centre; MacKenzie Art Gallery; and Sâkêwêwak First Nations Artists’ Collective Inc. The symposia events focused on surveying print media and printmaking history within Saskatchewan and artworks produced by Saskatchewan, Canadian, and international artists. Flatgrafika furthered the appreciation of printmaking as a medium; acted as a platform for artists, educators, and audiences to share information; examined the factors that have shaped printmaking in Saskatchewan; explored the work of the artists working in this medium; and enhanced the cultural heritage of the prairie province.
