Tracy Templeton’s first solo show in Japan featured sixteen new pieces in her distinctive style combining digital and analog printmaking. Her work-intensive hybridized form involving digital, etching, chine-collé premiered at Poetic Scape, a gallery known for representing recognized photographic artists. With Unsettled, Founder/Director Takashi Kakishima stepped outside the venue’s standard to feature Templeton’s bridge of photographic printmaking.

Setting a notable first for both venue and artist, this show situates the artist where she is ever comfortable—Japan. Templeton has been forging relationships, collaborating in group exhibitions, and establishing her work within the country’s art scene for over a decade. Also included in the exhibition, a collaborative piece created with Indiana University colleague James Nakagawa was acquired into the collection of the Tokyo Photographic Museum. The exhibit was accompanied by a panel on photography and printmaking with Nakagawa and Templeton, followed by an additional lecture by Templeton on her practice at Tokyo’s highly ranked art institution Tokyo University of the Arts.
